Employment Opportunity: Christmas Kettle Supervisor / Driver

JOB PURPOSE:
To ensure daily setup and collection of Kettles in designated zone along with site supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide safe, secure and timely transfer of Kettles, supplies and money to and from assigned locations
• Communicate with and provide supervision, instruction and guidance to Kettle hosts; report any and all incidents, recommendations, concerns, and trends to Kettle Coordinator
• Liaise with retail/security personnel regarding Kettle exchange, storage, shift changes, personnel changes, host breaks, host belongings, etc.
• Aid hosts in the retrieval and/or set up designated Christmas Kettle from storage locations
• Troubleshoot and debrief with Kettle Coordinator at the beginning and throughout duration of each shift
• Manage inventory and replenish Kettle supplies when low; provide maintenance to Kettles and supplies
• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Be punctual, reliable and community minded
• Positively portrays The Salvation Army and reflect its mission and core values
• Possesses good customer service skills – be friendly, courteous, positive, outgoing, flexible, task oriented, and patient
• Be able to work independently
• Ability to focus on job and refrain from distractions, i.e. mobile phone use when driving
• Possesses good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 lbs.
• Follows the dress code and be well groomed
• Possesses and wear proper outdoor attire in inclement weather
• Ability to calculate basic mathematical equations and problem-solve
• Possesses and access to mobile phone and email
• Possesses a valid BC Driver’s License and access to the use of a vehicle
• Ability to attend orientation session and agrees to Standards of Conduct
• Previous fundraising experience, supervision, delivery, and volunteer experience an asset
• Agrees to undergo a Criminal Records Check
• Minimum high school education or equivalency an asset

HOURS: Max. 35 hours per week; split shift and flexible hours may be required

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Temporary part time; 6-week commitment ( Monday – Saturday, No Sundays)
• Duration: November 12, 2015 to December 24, 2015

JOB PURPOSE:
To collect donations from holiday shoppers by spreading Christmas cheer and promoting The
Salvation Army.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Arrive at assigned location on time, retrieve and set up designated Christmas Kettle from storage location; remain with Christmas Kettle until shift change or Kettle is picked up by personnel
• Stand near Christmas Kettle for the entire duration of shift; greet, smile and collect donations from passers-by; thank donors
• Ensure Christmas Kettle is attended or stored away during restroom and meal breaks per instruction given; to ensure security of Christmas Kettle and monetary donations
• Follow instructions of Supervisor and Coordinator; report any problems or concerns to Supervisor or Coordinator
• Distribute swag, i.e. blessing cards, etc.
• Promote Salvation Army programs & services, volunteering, when opportunities arise
• Respond to donor questions or make appropriate referral
• Collect donor’s information when a request is made for a charitable tax receipt
• Manage inventory and request supplies when necessary
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Minimum high school education or equivalency an asset

Happy Retirement to Majors Russ and Judy Holland

HAW 2015 Kensington-Cedar Cottage Connect

The Salvation Army Vancouver Community & Family Services, John Howard Society of the Lower Mainland, Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House, and the Vancouver Public Library-Kensington Branch invite you to the 2015 Cedar Cottage Connect as part of The City of Vancouver’s Homeless Action Week.

The event takes place on October 16, 2015 from 11:00AM-2:00PM at McAuley Park (NE corner @ Fraser & Kingsway).  The event will feature a community resource area showcasing local agencies who provide services aimed at homeless and at-risk individuals, i.e. health care, employment, housing, etc. and will also include FREE food! In addition, the public is also encouraged to attend in an effort to learn what they can do in the fight against poverty.

At 12:30PM all are welcome to attend the screening of a short video illustrating the real-life challenges of living on the streets only a 1/2 block away at The Salvation Army Vancouver Community & Family Services, 3213 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC.  Following the video presentation, will be an open community forum/discussion focusing on issues related to housing and homelessness in Vancouver.  Light snacks and beverages will be provided.  We hope to see you there!

NOWBC – Empowering Newcomer Families with Information and Resources

IMG_7118August 31, 2015 – The Vancouver School Board (VSB) Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Program  invited The Salvation Army Vancouver Community & Family Services to participate in its Newcomer Orientation and Welcome to British Columbia (NOWBC) event which featured informative and educational activities for immigrant and refugee parents, students, and caregivers who have immigrated to Canada.  The NOWBC activities included concurrent information sessions, workshops and demonstrations on various topics relevant to “New Canadians.” There were also display areas where immigrant-serving agencies, non-profit organizations and government agencies, etc. showcased their programs and activities!

Farewell To Summer Student Employee

IMG_1894A BIG thank-you to summer student employee, Rachel Martens, for her hard work and dedication over the past few months.  Rachel’s efforts led to the success of the 2015 Back-to-School Supplies Program and further development of the ‘Growing Your Own Food Bank’ Community Gardening Club.  We wish her all the best as she continues her studies at Trinity Western University.

Zipline Rides at QE Park Raise Funds for Toy Mountain

IMG_0387Tuesday, August 18th – In support of Toy Mountain 2015, CTV Vancouver teamed with Greenheart International Development Corporation FlightLinez Vancouver.  100% of the proceeds from the zipline rides through Queen Elizabeth Park were generously donated to The Salvation Army to provide aid to families facing serious life challenges.

YWAM Idaho Feeds The Hungry at Community Drop-In Breakfast

IMG_5219A BIG thank-you to the 10 members of Youth With A Mission Canada and Youth With A Mission Idaho who volunteered at the Community Drop-In Breakfast this morning.  Along with serving over 100 meals, the group also prepared over 50 emergency food hampers for families in need!
